Chevy Colorado ZR2 Real-World Gas Mileage

Gas mileage for the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is estimated at 16MPG on the window sticker. Actual gas mileage can vary by driver habits, terrain, and driving conditions. Before we bought our ZR2, we were nervous about a truck with such low estimated fuel economy. In this post, we cover our real-world gas mileage after tracking a trip that included neighborhood, highway and mountain driving. If you prefer watching a video of the trip, check that out below:

Gas Mileage Estimate

According to the EPA, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 gas mileage is 16mpg City/16mpg Hwy. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 has the High-output 2.7 liter turbo-4 engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

Real World Gas Mileage Test Conditions

For our MPG test, we had to drive our dog, Lupe, to her knee surgery approximately 250 miles round-trip. This route includes the most scenic highway in Colorado: The Million Dollar Highway. We drove a combination of rural roads and mountain passes to get there are back, giving us a good variety of terrain and conditions for our average miles per gallon.

Actual/Real World ZR2 Gas Mileage

Throughout our gal mileage experiment, we kept track of our fuel economy. Halfway through the trip, at the location of Lupe’s knee surgery, our average was just over 21 MPG. This was very exciting given that our drive included some of Colorado’s highest mountain passes. When compared to our expectations of 16 MPG, this real-world miles per gallon result is awesome!

By the end of our trip, the truck’s computer said our trip averaged 20.8 MPG, but after doing the math based on miles driven versus gallons purchased, we got 21.8 MPG. Although there is a slight discrepancy, we’re happy with either result!
